A Vocal Competition

Benefiting The Studio of The Sooner Theatre

 

The Sooner Theatre of Norman, in cooperation with other local businesses, is hosting a competition to support the educational programs of The Studio of The Sooner Theatre. This year's competition will support scholarships and programs at The Studio of The Sooner Theatre in Downtown Norman. 

The first round of the competition will be conducted through video submission followed by a preliminary event to be held at the Sooner Theatre September 16, 2024.

The Finals Gala will be held at The Nest at Terra Verde, September 17, 2024. Dress for this event for attendees is party/cocktail/western.

This year’s events are dedicated to our friend, Toby Keith, in heartfelt gratitude for his support of The Sooner Theatre.

THE SOONER THEATRE

Semi-finalists in each age category (Youth, Teen and Adult) will be chosen from online entries to perform before celebrity judges on September 16, 2024, at The Sooner Theatre. It’s your chance to see some of the best rising talent in the region sing in hopes of becoming the next Voice Of The Heartland! Ten semi-finalists will move on to our Finals Gala on September 17, 2024!

Competition Entry

Deadline for submissions is 11:59 pm,
Friday, September 06, 2024. Semi-finalists must be able to appear at the Semi-finals at The Sooner Theatre on Sept. 16 and the finals at The Nest at Terre Verde, on Tuesday, Sept. 17. All semi-finalists will be notified before Friday, Sept. 06. 

Entries for the 2026 competition will open August 01, 2026.

 
 

Guidelines

entry Submission:

  • Entry is available only online via submission to www.VoiceOfTheHeartland.org.

  • Cost per entry is $40.00 (non-refundable)

  • Contestants chosen to continue to the semi-finals and finals must be available for a live performance on September 16, 2024, (semi-finals) and September 17, 2024 (finals).

  • Entries must be solos, duos, trios or quartets. No groups larger than quartets will be accepted.

  • Soloists may enter a second entry as part of a duo, trio or quartet, but no one may enter more than one solo submission.

How to Submit:

  • Create your video submission using a phone or a video camera. Keep it simple. The quality of the video image will not be judged.

  • Upload your video submission to YouTube using a phone or computer. Make sure your link is visible to us - it’s good to send the link to someone to test it for you!

  • Complete our competition entry form (with payment) and provide the direct link in the form.

Age Categories:

  • 7-12 Years of age

  • 13-17 Years of age

  • 18 years old and up

    Officials will place duets/trios/quartets in appropriate age categories. Singers must be age 7 or older.

Song selections:

  • Songs from any musical genre are permitted

  • Song selection must be no longer than three minutes, and must be appropriate for audiences of all ages

  • Backing tracks or self-accompaniment are permitted

Eligibility

  • Immediate family (parents, children, siblings), extended family (grandchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces), and members of the same household of all Sooner Theatre staff, board or HSRG are ineligible to enter as participants in The Voice Of The Heartland competition.

  • Contestants cannot be under contract for recording with a record label.

  • The Semi-final round will be judged by a panel of industry experts

  • During the Finals round, the audience vote will be combined with preliminary totals to determine the final winner. The Finals will be a benefit dinner event. There will not be enough available tickets for any one contestant to stack the house with voters.
